With Term 3 well under way, the students at Wahgunyah Primary School have already experienced a number of exciting events at the school and are looking forward to busy times ahead.
At the weekend, a number of students, teachers and community members attended the National Tree Planting Day at the Willows in Wahgunyah where over 700 plants were planted. All enjoyed the barbecue lunch and thanks must go to Landcare and The Indigo Shire for the plants, and the Wahgunyah Progress Association and The Wahgunyah Willows Committee for organising the event.
On Monday 30th July, Tom Hafey – ex Richmond player, Collingwood coach and motivation speaker visited the school to speak with students in years 3-6. Mr Hafey talked about motivation and teamwork and also spoke with staff and parents after school.
The Year 4, 5 and 6 students have been working on constructing a push cart for Energy Breakthrough as well as writing letters to local and surrounding area businesses and community groups to obtain sponsorship for the event which will be held in late November. They have also been working with Microworlds and have started their fitness regime.
The Year 5 and 6 students who are travelling to Noumea, New Caledonia in the first week of Term 4 on a French Language Study Trip are exploring the country in depth as well as brushing up on their French and revising their travelling requirements.
Years Prep, 1, 2 and 3 are actively practising and rehearsing music and dance items for the Wangaratta Music Festival in early September where they will perform on stage together with many other schools from the Wangaratta Network.
A team of Year 4, 5 and 6 girls competed in the Hockey 7’s competition on Thursday 26 July. The girls displayed excellent skills against mixed teams from the Albury Wodonga Region and will go on to represent the school in Melbourne in the all girl competition on the 9th August. The Year 4, 5 and 6 boys will also be attending a sports carnival where they will be fielding a team in the soccer competition. This will be held on the 10th August in Wodonga.
All families of prospective 2008 Prep and up to year 6 students are invited to an Open Day at the school on Wednesday 8th August 2007 to enable families to come and view the fantastic curriculum and facilities provided at the school and speak with the Principal and staff. This Open Day is followed by a very beneficial Prep Orientation Program that runs throughout November where enrolled 2008 Preps attend school one day a week for four weeks to become familiar with the transition that takes place from pre-school into formal schooling. All are welcome.
